The Canon EOS-1D Mark II is an EXCELLENT professional grade DSLR Body . The clean high ISO results are what impress me the most with 1D II. Pictures are nearly noise-free up through ISO 400, ISO 800 is very good and ISO 1600 is very useable (and I am very particular in this regard). Basically, the 1D II is excellent for low light photography .

Fussy user interface aside, when the EOS-1D Mark II is placed alongside the current EOS-1D X Mark II it's amazing how little some things have changed. Canon got a lot right with the control layout of the EOS-1 back in 1989, and the continuity of design over almost 30 years of development is impressive.

(Manual mode, 50mm, ISO 100, f/10, 1/200) That leads me to suspect that either your shutter, or your mirror is failing, and not allowing the light to reach the sensor. I can't think of any other reason for a black photo.
Before you go to the trouble updating the FW read what it does. I no longer have my 1D Mk II but I do still have my 1D MkIIn. If I remember correctly Canon stopped updating the FW on the Mk II when the Mk IIn came out very soon after the Mk II. You always should read what the FW does before you inst
