It obviously lacks the fast maximum aperture of an f/2.8 prime - but it more than makes up for this with its reduced bulk and lower price tag. Performance and image quality were impressive in our lab tests. See our full Nikon AF-S 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR review. How we test lenses. Sigma does a good job of taking indoor photos. But Nikon produces the natural color more. Nikon is noticeably longer than Sigma when it pulls the 70mm. When it comes to shooting the moving objects both lenses struggle a bit. They keep losing focus. But overall Nikon 24-70mm does a better job than the Sigma 24-70mm. The 24-70mm f/2.8 VR is a great lens! When I had a D750, my 24-70mm remained fixed on it 95% of the time. 24-70mm is a excellent focal length for many functions. These are really impressive MTF curves with excellent resolution, but it’s always helpful to compare things a bit, so below are side-by-side comparisons with the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 Mk II and Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 AF-S VR lenses. First, we’ll compare the MTFs at 24mm. Vignetting. Even though the Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 is an f/2.8 lens, it arguably beats the 24-200mm f/4-6.3 in vignetting performance! The vignetting performance of the 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR is pretty suspect, especially at 24mm. Even though the 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR improves dramatically at 35mm and beyond, the ridiculous levels of vignetting at

The clear winner here is the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G, which shows excellent center, mid-frame and corner sharpness, especially when stopped down. The Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 suffers quite a bit in the corners due to field curvature. Here, we can see that the Tamron suffers greatly at anything beyond 50mm, showing very poor overall performance.
See my Nikon 24-70mm f2.8E VR review. Sony offers different versions of a 24-70mm f2.8 zoom but their latest is the FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM. The lens does not offers its own image stabilization so you need to rely on the built-in stabilization featured in recent Sony bodies. It is sold for around 2060 EUR. Many reviewers criticized the lens heavily for its performance, claiming it to be a soft lens when compared to its predecessor, the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G. And some even put it as the winner in the “worst lens release of 2015” category. Did Nikon engineers really screw up in updating one of the most popular pro-grade lenses?

Perhaps interesting to know for other members. I just had my trusty 24-70 repaired after 8 years of hard use. The zoom and focus rings were getting stiffer as many users will recognise (still usable though), the rubber was getting very worn, and during a recent event I tripped on a staircase and dropped the camera + lens where it got a couple of pretty hard knocks.
Jan 24, 2017. I am currently looking at getting a 24-70mm f2.8 lens for my Nikon D810, I have been seriously impressed with the abilities of the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 and was wondering if the Tamron 24-70mm would be able to match the same quality. The many reviews that I have seen on the 24-70mm Tamron have been glowing and some even saying that

In this comparison we’ve tested the Sony against the equivalent Canon and Nikon rival models. We’ve chosen the higher resolution 50-Mpix Canon EOS 5DS R to highlight the potential of the Canon combination, but even when tested on the lower 22-Mpix resolution Canon EOS 5D Mark III, the EF 24-70mm F2.8L II still achieves peak sharpness levels similar to the Sony.

The Nikon 16-35mm f/4G VR does quite well at 24mm, but not at the same level of the 24-70mm f/2.8G, which is incredibly sharp in comparison in the center of the frame. When it comes to the corners, however, the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G doesn’t do nearly as well thanks to its heavy field curvature. One can obtain better corner results with the 24
